Community Activities

Community activities are one of the central pillars of Text+. Networking with the community is an important basis for a customised portfolio of services within the framework of the NFDI. This networking is already built into the consortial structure of Text+. Community activities also include the entire area of consulting as well as a comprehensive dissemination offering.

Text+ goes to great lengths to capture the dynamically evolving needs of its target group. This is the only way to provide an offering that is actively designed for and by the community.

Community and Governance

The governance of the consortium is geared towards the broad involvement of the research community through the Coordination Committees (CC). The CCs are also involved in the allocation of funding (Text+ Collaborative Projects), which can help to expand the Text+ service portfolio. Cooperation with the specialist associations and alliances is also crucial for further opening up the service landscape. Through close cooperation with the specialised information services, Text+ also focuses on cutting-edge research, in line with the mission of the FIDs. And at the other end of the career ladder, there are programmes for early careers, e.g. as part of the annual plenaries.

Consulting

The close connection with the community is the prerequisite for our extensive consulting services with Helpdesk and Research Rendezvous. In a broader sense, consulting also includes the provision of tutorials as well as the development and publication of handouts, documentation and curricular recommendations.

Helpdesk

Community activities primarily include support in the form of counselling services, which can be requested via our Helpdesk.

Research Rendezvous

Without prior registration, the Research Rendezvous, which takes place every two weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, provides an opportunity to discuss concerns and questions about Text+ services, the NFDI and text and language-related research data in general.

Tutorials

With “Training and Teaching”, Text+ offers a collection of training materials, tutorials, etc. on a wide range of topics relating to the handling of text and language-based research data. The list is currently curated and continuously updated via the SSHOC Marketplace. Please contact the Helpdesk if you have any suggestions for interesting (and not yet listed) training material.

Registry

The Text+ Registry is the central reference system for the resources made available for re-use by the NFDI consortium. The Text+ Registry functions as an open directory for editions: On the one hand, relevant catalogues and reference systems are integrated, on the other hand, printed, hybrid and digital editions can be entered manually by the community and thus made discoverable – regardless of whether they are provided by a Text+ Centre.

The community can contribute to the development of the Editions Registry. It is possible to register your own resources and thus make research data, tools, services and editions visible and accessible to the community.

Dissemination

The Text+ Community Activities also include the whole area of dissemination. Text+ is represented at numerous conferences and lecture series at research institutions in German-speaking countries and acts as an open, participatory multiplier in cooperation with researchers from all areas of text and linguistics. Simply contact us during the events and we will be happy to forward your enquiry to our helpdesk.

Events

Text+ also organises numerous events and workshops of its own and works on further networking with stakeholders and the community. Text+ offers a series of recurring event formats to specifically address the current needs of the specialist community. These have a clearly defined thematic profile and take place at fixed intervals. This allows you to participate in continuous discussion and learning processes according to your interests.

Four-part online workshop series in February that teaches editing projects the FAIR principles (quality assurance, UX, BEACON, documentation) in a practical way.
Open online meeting every fortnight with a 60-minute demo of a tool, service or project followed by a discussion.
Regular virtual presentations by the Infrastructure/Operations team on infrastructure topics such as entity linking or search services.
Forum for young researchers to informally discuss methods, theories and projects in digital text studies.
Workshops that use concrete examples (DTABf, correspSearch, DeReKo, etc.) to highlight the use of standards and tools in language and text research.

On our events page you will find an overview of all events organized by and in connection with Text+. If you have an interesting event that should be published in our overview, you are welcome to send it to us using our form.

Text+ Blog

The Text+ Blog is all about the data culture of our community. We provide an insight into the current activities of Text+, explain who is involved how and why, and report on events, opportunities and publications. The editors invite you to submit blogposts on a rolling basis, or to join the team.
